    Shore

The 12 colour etching, Shore was created and printed in 1997, the year before the artist's death and was the last great print he made. Like his other two Artist For Kids prints, it is a vivid example of how Jack Shadbolt dynamically reconciled the forces of growth in nature with abstraction. This etching is unmistakably Shadbolt and was admired by him for its "painterlyness". Landscape imagery was part of his repertoire since the early fifties. The inspiration can be traced to a love of and concern for the environment he had since he was a youngster.
