Arnold Shives was born in Vancouver, BC in 1943 and is best known as a master printmaker. As a child he recalls always loving to draw and has vivid memories of encouragement from a classmate whom he sold his work to at age 9. This early entrepreneurial success led him to sell his work door to door in his neighborhood, motivating him to develop his budding skills. Arnold continued to develop his love of art through high school and university. In 1964 he moved to California completing a BFA degree at the San Francisco Art Institute and subsequently an MA in painting at Stanford. He now lives and works in North Vancouver. Exhibited across Canada, the US and Europe, his work can be found in numerous public and private collections including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
